The folks over at Team Cherry, the Aussie developers behind the masterpiece Hollow Knight, have found it necessary to quash any doubts about their much-awaited sequel, Silksong.
Matthew Griffin, a key figure in the studio’s marketing and publishing department, recently responded to a tweet questioning the project’s status. He reassured fans, confirming that Silksong is “real, progressing, and will release.”
Silksong first made its debut announcement back in 2019. It was initially planned to be just downloadable content for Hollow Knight but eventually evolved into its own standalone game. Since then, information about the game has been frustratingly sparse. After a brief glimpse during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase in June 2022, which suggested its addition to Game Pass by June 2023, there’s been an eerie silence.
Naturally, this delay has left the Silksong community in a bit of a frenzy. The speculation reached a bizarre peak when fans noticed Team Cherry’s William Pellen had updated his Twitter profile picture to an image of a cake. Nothing unusual there, right? Except upon running the image through a reverse search, they discovered it had a future timestamp—April 2nd, 2024.
With some imaginative leaps, fans began to believe that Silksong would be spotlighted at Nintendo’s much-anticipated Switch 2 event, slated for none other than April 2nd, 2025.
However, a well-known Silksong YouTuber recently debunked all these fantastical theories, labeling them as sheer nonsense and wishful thinking.
Honestly, it’s a wild ride, but I get it. I’m as eager as anyone to get my hands on Silksong, so I can see myself believing any wild story just to keep that anticipation burning. Who can blame us? At least we haven’t reached Star Citizen levels of commitment. Seriously—$778 million in funding? That’s something else.
