Upcoming ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Game Removes PSVR 2 Support Before PS5 Launch

Earlier this week, Steel Wool Studios dropped the exciting news that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic will be arriving on PS5 and PC come June 13th. However, they’ve sparked some intrigue by quietly omitting any mention of PSVR 2 support in their latest announcements.

The game initially dazzled attendees at PAX West 2024 with a playable PSVR 2 demo, promising an immersive experience that blended virtual reality with traditional gameplay. Steel Wool Studios, the creative force behind notable VR titles like Hello Neighbor Search and Rescue (2023) and FNAF: Help Wanted (2019) along with its 2024 sequel, seemed poised to deliver another VR hit.

Despite announcing the upcoming release, the studio has scrubbed any reference to PSVR 2 from all marketing materials, including the game’s PlayStation Store page. Previously, web archives indicated potential VR support, but that’s now disappeared. The last crumb of VR hope was a PlayStation blog post on February 12th detailing the release date, but that too has been pulled.

It’s still up in the air whether PSVR 2 support will eventually be incorporated. There’s also curiosity about whether the PC edition, landing on Epic Games Store and Steam, will feature optional VR compatibility.

We’ve reached out to Steel Wool Studios for clarity but are still waiting to hear back. As soon as we get an update, we’ll let you know—whether it means a postponed VR mode launch or a different release tactic altogether.
